DeWitt named NJCAA Division II Baseball Defensive Player of the Year

Charlotte, NC – Brandon DeWitt has been named as the 2019 Spalding® NJCAA DII Baseball Defensive Player of the Year after a tremendous year in the outfield for the Sinclair Tartan Pride.

Ranked as high as 3rd for most of the season, the Tartan Pride finished 51-10 capturing it’s third OCCAC championship in a row.  This three peat is the programs 4th overall and the second one for Coach Dintaman.

Freshman Brandon DeWitt (FR/CF – Xenia H.S.) also collected the 2019 NJCAA Division II ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award and was named to the OCCAC 1st Team.  He boosted a perfect fielding percentage from Centerfield with 69 putouts and 6 assist in route to winning the Gold Glove and National Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Brandon had a solid freshman year at the plate as well as he was second on the team with 14 doubles and tied for the team’s best batting average with .393

“Brandon played incredible defense for us all year long in centerfield. He made some unbelievable plays, and there are over a dozen players that he robbed of extra-base hits. I’ve never seen a player make plays near and at outfield fence as he made. He’s a difference maker and we’re glad he’s on our team," said Sinclair’s Head Coach Steve Dintaman.
