Sinclair Volleyball Collects OCCAC and NJCAA Region XII awards

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Amid postseason play for several OCCAC volleyball representatives, the conference office announced the 2018 All-OCCAC honors on Friday (Nov. 2) and the NJCAA Region XII released all-region honors Monday (Nov. 5).

Sinclair’s KC Gan earned Conference Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in his career (2000, 2005 and 2012). Coach Gan just finished his 20th season at Sinclair and is inching up on 400 career collegiate coaching victories.

Two Sinclair freshman were named to the OCCAC 1st Team; Elizabeth Nicole Sicking (5-11/FR – Fairfield H.S./Hamilton, OH) and Hallie Holbrook (5-10/FR – Shenandoah H.S./Daleville, IN).

Joining the two freshman with all-conference honors, Sophomore Kara Jones (5-6/SO – Kettering Fairmont H.S.) finished a great two year career by being named to the Honorable Mention team.

Both Sicking and Holbrook was also named to the OCCAC All-Freshman team with Nicole Sicking receiving the OCCAC Freshman of the Year award.  Nicole also collected a total of five OCCAC Player of the Week honors on her way to being named freshman of the Year.

The two freshman teammates continued to add to a memorable 1st year as they earned NJCAA Division II – Region XII All-Region honors.

One more honor was added to Sicking’s collection, she was named to the NJCAA Division II All-Tournament Team for District E.

Sinclair finished the regular season 21-15 and 10-5 in the OCCAC which qualified them for the #1 seed in the Region XII – District E tournament held in Port Huron, MI.   The Pride won the first match against Cuyahoga but lost the next two against Mott and Oakland to fall short of advancing the National Tournament in Charleston, WV.
