Sinclair Volleyball knocks off Cuyahoga 3-1

Dayton, OH – The Sinclair (1-1/1-1) Volleyball team recorded win number one of the season today as the Pride beat visiting Cuyahoga (0-1/0-1) 3-1 for a weekend split.  The win today was the 11th consecutive victory over Cuyahoga over the last four seasons.

Even before the popcorn was ready, Sinclair was ready to play as they jumped on the visitors 6-1 to start match.  From that early lead, the Pride had is on cruise and coasted to the 25-20 first set victory.

Both teams battled back and forth to start the second set until Sinclair rallied for 4 straight points and forcing the Challengers to call a time out down 13-9.  Unfortunately for the Tri-C the time out did not break the will of the Pride as they continued to push the margin up to 17-10.  Borrowing a famous quote from one of baseball greats Yogi Berra “It was Déjà vu all over again” as the Pride once again coasted to a 25-22 second set win.

Even though Sinclair was up 2 sets to none, Cuyahoga had made some strong challenges and was starting to make inspired plays.  With the third set tied at 16-16, Cuyahoga got the break they were looking for as they finally took the lead.  Gaining with confidence, Tri-C rallied out to their largest lead of the match 24-21 and barely held on to the 25-23 win and push the match to a fourth set.

Not wanting the match to go the distance after already dropping a five set match Friday night, Sinclair opened a 6-2 lead.  Cuyahoga needing to find a way to push the match to a fifth set, played their way back into the set and tied it at 14-14.  Neither team was giving an inch and finally with the set all knotted up at 24-24, Sinclair got a break and capitalized with two quick points for the set and match.
