Sinclair Volleyball wins 3-1 against Lorain County
Dayton, OH – The Sinclair (19-8/10-3 OCCAC) Volleyball won their 8th match in a row and their 10th conference match tonight as the Pride drive home a 3-1 win over visiting Lorain County (11-14/3-8).
Friday the 13th was going to be unlucky for one team and tonight the visiting Commodores found the Brick House and the nightmare on 4th street. Tonight was also Sinclair’s annual Pink Game for Breast Cancer Awareness.
After zombie type start for the Pride, the home team found what they were looking inside Building 8 Arena. Down 20-19, sophomore Sarah Bettinger (SO-Anna HS) had three straight kills to bring the Pride back to life to take the first set 25-22.
Both teams battled back and forth in the second set as Friday the 13th continued to be unlucky for the Commodores. Getting excited to possible pull out a set 2 win, Lorain held a 23-22 margin with Sinclair serving. Freshman Kara Jones (FR-Kettering Fairmont HS) recorded back to back service aces as Sinclair finished the 2nd set with a 25-23 win.
The third set was no different than the first two as both teams never gained any large advantage. Tied at 25 and with their backs against the wall, Lorain need to find any luck somewhere to keep this match going. And luck they would have as a couple of Sinclair miscues would turn in the favor of Lorain and hand them the 28-26 win.
It seemed like when they walked back out to the court to start the fourth set, they did so by walking under a ladder then followed by a line of black cats walking in front of them to cause all the good luck they had just experienced at the end of the 3rd set to disappear. The nightmare on 4th street was now real for the Commodores as Sinclair jumped out 11-2 causing the Lorain coach to use an early timeout. Even that did not solve the run of bad luck for the visitors as the strong and aggressive play from Sinclair finished off the match with a 25-12 fourth set win.

Caroline Smith (SO-Tecumseh HS) continued to collect assists as tonight she recorded 34. Sarah Bettinger had a team high 26 kills with 23 digs and 3 service aces.
Sinclair will finish a busy home week by hosting the #1 nationally ranked Owens on Saturday in an OCCAC match up.
All home games are played in Building 8 Arena on the downtown Dayton campus.
