Sinclair Women’s Basketball wins big against Lorain County 78-29

Dayton, OH- Sinclair Women’s Basketball (20-6, 9-5) came out in big fashion with a huge home win against the Commodores of Lorain County Community College (2-26-0-15).  This is Victoria Jones’ first 20-win season as head coach of the Tartan Pride.

In the 1st quarter, Sinclair had a slow start offensively and was missing their marks with shots not going in.  The defense was allowing shots to be made which kept the game evenly matched.  On offense, the Tartans were able to get rebounds to reset the shot clock and their play.  At the end of the first half, the score was tied 11-11.

The 2nd quarter was successful on the offensive side.  The Tartans had a 5-0 run to start the quarter.  Lorain County on offense had forced and unforced turnovers which led to Sinclair being able to score on offense.  Four minutes into the quarter, Sinclair was on a 14-2 run and contributed to their dominance.  After the 2nd quarter, the Tartans were up 34-18.  Laquelle Jacobs (5-08/FR-Jesup W. Scott H.S.) led the team with 7 points.

Sinclair started the 3rd quarter with a 10-1 run over Lorain County.  The offense for the Tartans was quickly clicking.  Put backs were being made and looked easy for Sinclair.  After the 3rd quarter, Sinclair was up 52-24.  Aaryn Evans (6-00/FR-Thurgood Marshall H.S.) led the scoring with 6 points.

The defense was very solid for the Tartans in the 4th quarter and the offense was not lacking either.  Sinclair started the quarter with a 16-0 run.  Not a lot of shots were allowed or made for Lorain County.  The Commodores were forced into playing sloppy and making bad shots.  Ball movement was looking good for the offense of the Tartans and shots were going in.  This game was in Sinclair’s favor since the beginning of the 2nd quarter.  Sinclair won their 20th game of the season with a final score of 78-29.  Nia Martin (5-04/FR-Trotwood-Madison H.S.) had 9 points including two 3-point FGs.

Aaryn Evans led the team with 16 points.

Lauren Roetgerman (5-10/FR-Minster H.S.) had 11 points and Madison Connally Banks (6-01/FR-Fairmont H.S.) had 13 points.

Sinclair Women play at home next on Saturday February 25th against Cuyahoga at 1:00 PM.

All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
