(20)Sinclair Women’s Basketball Wins 8th Straight Game 74-67 Over Columbus State

Dayton, OH
- With last Saturday’s game postponed against Lakeland, Sinclair Women’s Basketball (10-1, 1-0) opened conference play against Columbus State Community College (2-8, 0-2) at home with a big win.  Sinclair had not had a win against Columbus State since the 2014-2015 season so this meant a lot to the Tartan Pride.

Both teams were off to a slow start to the 1st quarter with turnovers on both of first possessions.  Defense lacked a little to start the game.  The Tartans allowed the Cougars to go on a 7-0 run to make the score 4-8.  The defense did fore turnovers on Columbus State’s offense.  Sinclair’s offense started to step up and took the lead 11-10 with a pair of FTs.  After the 1st quarter, Sinclair led Columbus State 14-11.

Reanna Dudley (5-04/SO-Chaminade Julienne H.S.) had 5 points and both Madison Connally-Banks (6-01/FR-Fairmont H.S.) and Nia Martin (5-04/SO-Trotwood-Madison H.S.) had 4 points.

The defense was the light of the 2nd quarter.  This allowed the offense to attempt more shots and drive up the score.  Columbus State was forced to play sloppy.  The Tartans did have a slight problem with missed layups and free throws, but did outscore the Cougars 19-13 in the 2nd quarter.  Sinclair led at halftime with a score of 33-24.  Tajah Parker (5-09/FR-Chaminade Julienne H.S.) had 5 points.  Lauren Roetgerman (5-10/FR-Minster H.S.) had 4 points, including a 3-point FG.

The 3rd quarter continued for the Tartans with missed layups and sloppy play.  Their defense was also not the best.  Nonetheless, 2 players stood out with their offensive style.  Madison Connally-Banks had 9 points and Tajah Parker had 6 points.  Sinclair had the lead after the 3rd quarter 54-55.

The offense in the 4th quarter started slow for the Tartan Pride, but quickly picked up.  What could have been the downfall for Sinclair was the problem with layups, free throws, and general shots.  Their defense was able to force more turnovers on Columbus State’s offense.  This game came down the wire for both teams, but Sinclair was able to prevail with a victory 74-67 over Columbus State.  Reanna Dudley added 5 more points to her game total.

Tajah Parker had 16 points and 8 rebounds.  Reanna Dudley finished with 14 points and Nia Martin also had 14 points.

Sinclair Women play at home next Saturday December 17th against (3)Owens Community College at 1 P.M.

All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
