Sinclair Women’s Basketball routs Edison at home for Sophomore Night
The Sinclair Women’s Basketball (14-12, 6-8) won their final regular season game of the season against the Edison Community College Chargers with a score of 68-59 this Saturday afternoon.
This was Sophomore Night for the Tartans with seven players being honored. These players include Sara Thornton, Ashtin Brandon, Shirneal Burnside, Markesa Watson, Maya Murray, Madison Schroeder, and Alona Skipper.
Ashtin Brandon had a season-best 19 points and 7 rebounds in the game for Sinclair. Maya Murray led with 11 rebounds while Sara Thornton had 7 assists.
This game was a good way for the Tartans to end the season with a positive note and head into tournament play on a win. Sinclair led the entire game over Edison. The score was within single digits the entire time, but the Tartans never let the Chargers come within reaching distance. Good ball movement was key to the victory.
The 1st quarter looked good for Sinclair as they started to pull away from Edison and show them that they were the better team. Defense looked sharp and kept Edison from gaining on the home team. At the end of the 1st quarter, Sinclair led with a score of 18-10. Ashtin Brandon had 9 points for the Tartans.
Both teams were evenly matched in the 2nd quarter with 15 points apiece. Madison Schroeder had 9 points and Ashtin Brandon continued her tear with 4 more points. Going into halftime, Sinclair led Edison 33-25.
The 3rd quarter for the Tartans was full of 3-point FGs. While the defense allowed 20 points, the offense matched it by scoring 21 points. Of the 21 points scored, 15 of which were from 3-point FGs. Sara Thornton had 9 points, all of which were from 3-pointers. Alona Skipper had 6 points, which were also all from 3-points. Sinclair was up on Edison 54-45 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Tartans were able to lock up the win in the 4th quarter. While the offense scored 14 points, the defense only gave up 14 points. Sara Thornton added another 5 points and Ashtin Brandon had 4 points. With a final score of 68-59, the Sinclair Tartans finished this season with a home record of 8-4.
Madison Schroeder had 15 points and 9 rebounds. Alona Skipper finished the game with 6 points. Shirneal Burnside had 1 block, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists.
For Edison Community College: Brooke Dunlevy led with 22 points and Sydney Miller led with 7 rebounds.
Sinclair outrebounded Edison 48-26.
Sinclair Women’s first OCCAC tournament game is Tuesday, March 1st at Columbuys State (12-15, 7-7).
All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
