Sinclair Women’s Basketball loses at home to Columbus State
The Sinclair Women’s Basketball (8-10, 2-6) had won two home games in a row before tonight’s loss to Columbus State (9-10, 5-3).
Both teams were evenly matched in the 1st quarter with Alona Skipper leading the scoring with 8 points and Madison Schroeder with 5 points. The Tartans lead the Cougars 17-15 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Neither team experienced much offense in the 2nd quarter. Alona Skipper and Chloe Mayfield-Brown each hit a 3-point FG. Sinclair was able to start the quarter on a 5-0 run before Columbus State was able to catch up and tie the game at 25 all at halftime.
Sinclair and Columbus State were able to keep it a close game in the 3rd quarter. The scoring would go back and forth between the teams. Although Madison Schroeder was able to score 8 points, the Cougars outscored the Tartan Pride 16-17 to take the 41-42 lead at the end of the 3rd quarter. Alona Skipper added on another 5 points to her total.
By the 4th quarter, Sinclair was unable to keep up with Columbus State. The Tartans were able to score another 16 points, but the Cougars laid down 23 points to put the game in the bag. It was a hard-fought game for Sinclair, but they came up just short for a final score of 57-65.
Alona Skipper posted a season-high 21 points and led the offense. Madison Schroeder had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Sara Thornton contributed her own 8 points.
Sinclair was outrebounded by Columbus State 55-38.
Sinclair Women’s next home game will be Wednesday, February 3rd at 5:30 pm hosting Cincinnati State (14-7, 5-2).
All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
