DAYTON, Ohio – Sinclair women’s basketball team defeated Columbus State Community College 76-66 to improve to 12-8 overall and 2-3 in OCCAC. The Cougars falls to 12-2 and 3-1 in the conference. Breanna Ball (SO/5’7” Belmont H.S.) was the player of the game as she had a season high 24 points with 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
First half was back and forth from both teams as there were three total lead changes and three total times the teams were tied in the game. The Cougars were able limit the Tartans to only one field goal attempt per possession as they out rebounded Sinclair 25-18. Both teams shot well from the field as they were both better than 33 percent from the field. The Cougars went into the locker room up 33-27.
The Tartans came out with energy and resilience as they went on a 19-2 run in the first five minutes of the second half to take a 46-35 lead. Columbus State clawed their way back into the game with their full court press which forced the Tartans to 23 turnovers on the game. This cut the lead to 6 with eight minutes left. With Sinclair shooting 48.4 percent from the field, 60 percent from three, and making 13 free throws in the second half, the Lady Tartans held on to win the game.
Notable players included O’Sha Owens (SO/5’5” Elida H.S.), who had 18 points and Alona Skipper (FR/5’10” Stebbins H.S.) who had 12. For the Cougars, Geiger led the team in scoring with 17 points.
Sinclair’s next game is at Cuyahoga this Saturday, January 24th, at 1pm E.T.
