Dayton, Ohio- Sinclair Community College Athletics announced yesterday that Victoria Jones has joined the Women's Basketball coaching staff as Associate Head Coach. Victoria Jones comes with a wealth of experience within women's college basketball, having been coaching for the last 14 years. Victoria joins Sinclair to continue the Tartan's recent success of consecutive fifth place finishes in the OCCAC.
Victoria Jones has an extensive coaching history under her belt. She started coaching high school teams from 2001-06. Then, she took the head coaching job at Cincinnati State Tech. She accumulated a 37-20 overall record (21-7 OCCAC) over a two year span with consecutive runner-up finishes in the OCCAC before moving on to be the assistant coach at Murray State. Eureka College came calling and she was appointed as Assistant Athletic Director and Women's Head Basketball Coach. In her only season she led the Red Devils to a 17-9 record, a third-place SLIAC finish and a third consecutive league tournament appearance in 2013-14. Her overall record as a head coach is 110-52. She has coached and produced eighteen All-Conference selections, three Player-of-the Years, one Freshmen-of-the-Year, three All-Newcomers, two All-Region players, one All-American, two All-America honor student-athletes, one whom was Number One in NCAA Division I.
Victoria Jones is a University of Dayton alum. She played two seasons from 1999 to 2001 for the Flyers and still holds the school record for most made 3pointers without a miss in a game (6-6). She helped Dayton to a WNIT appearance in 2001. Before UD, Jones attended St. Catharine College. She ranked nationally in NJCAA, second in 2pt fg% (65.9), fourth in 3pt fg% (43.7) and eighth in assists per game (6.6). Victoria held honors including honorable-mention All- American and a member of the All-Region team. After college, Jones played in the WBCBL Semi-Pro League in Dallas, Texas for one year back in 2005.
Jones comes to Sinclair with an already bolstered roster with four returning sophomores which includes last year's First Team All-OCCAC member O'Sha Owens and All-OCCAC Honorable mention Jenae Curtiss.
Sinclair Women's Basketball will begin their season today, November 4th, against Cedarville University's JV team at 5pm in Building 8, P.A.C. Gymnasium.
