4 Sinclair softball players earn All-Conference Honors

Dayton, Ohio – The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) announced that four Sinclair Softball players were named to the 2017 All-Conference Team.

Sinclair finished the regular season 18-23 overall and 4-4 in the conference for a 2nd place finish.  The 4-4 OCCAC record qualified them as the #2 seed in this week’s NJCAA Division II District J tournament played in Port Huron, MI. 

The Pride will take on Mott Wednesday at 3pm at Pine Grove Park in a double elimination tournament, winner advances to the NJCAA Division II Softball Nationals in Clinton, MS, May 17-20.

Leading the way with an outstanding year for the Pride, Jazzlyn Petry (FR/C – Greenville H.S.).  She finished the season at the top of almost every Sinclair offensive category.  Playing in all 41 games, Petry hammered out 5 home runs and 37 RBI’s along with 16 doubles.  Her .669% Slugging percentage was also tops on the team and was named OCCAC Player of the Week on April 2nd.

Shelby Hartzell (FR/P – Ansonia H.S.) earned two OCCAC Pitchers of the Week honors (March 5 & April 23) on her way to being named to the OCCAC All-Conference Team.  Finishing the season with an impressive 3.47 ERA, Hartzell was the main arm on staff as she pitched 139 out of 248 (56%) total innings and appeared in 34 of the 41 games.  She accumulated a 13-12 record with 2 saves on the season while striking out 118 batters.

Kierah Parker (FR/OF – Fairmont H.S.) also earned OCCAC Player of the Week honors (March 12) as she lead the way for Sinclair with 54 hits and 4 triples. Her 14 stolen bases and 16 extra base hits was among the team leaders.  

Megan Anderson (FR/OF – Piqua H.S.) rounded out the All-Conference selections for Sinclair with her team best 53 hits and her 19 stolen bases was by far the best mark on the team.

In addition to these four young ladies earning All-Conference honors, Petry and Anderson also earned OCCAC All-Academic Team honors for the Fall Semester.
