Sinclair Hands (12) Owens its First Conference Loss

Toledo, OH – The Sinclair softball team (16-12, 4-6) picked up a huge road win this weekend when they traveled to conference foe (12) Owens (19-7, 9-1).  Sinclair split the double header with Owens losing the first game 11-6 and routing them in the second game 14-2.  This is Sinclair's first win over Owens since the softball program started back up last year, after a 21 year lapse away from the Sinclair athletic program.  Between last season's meetings and this season's, Sinclair was 0-7 against Owens going into the eighth meeting between the two.

In game 1, errors again plagued Sinclair with a total of 7 and Owens got 3 unearned runs.   Miranda Roberts (P/Fresh. – Tecumseh H.S., New Carlisle, OH) went 2 for 4 at the plate with 2 RBI's. Alex Hendrix (CF/Fresh. – Beavercreek H.S., Beavercreek, OH) and Rachel Ward (C/Fresh. –Middletown Madison, Middletown, OH) both went 2 for 4 at the plate as well and Ward had an RBI.  Kaila Sturgell (P/Fresh. – Liberty Center H.S., Liberty Center, OH) pitched 4.1 innings and got the loss in game 1, 11-6. 

Game 2 tells a much different tale than game 1 for Sinclair.  Sinclair came out strong and put together a complete game both offensively and defensively and dominating Owens 14-2.  Madison Monnin (1B/Fresh. – Versailles H.S., Versailles, OH) had an outstanding game at the plate blasting 3 triples and 1 double, she finished 4 for 5 with 7 RBI's and scored 3 runs.  Brooke Peters (SS/Soph. – Union County H.S., Liberty, IN) and Alex Hendrix both had triples for Sinclair as well.  Rachel Ward was 3 for 4 at the plate, getting 2 RBI's and scoring 4 runs.  Sierra Stewart (3B/Soph. – Bellbrook H.S., Bellbrook, OH) went 3 for 5 at the plate with 3 RBI's.  Sierra Breeze (P/Soph. – Kettering Fairmont, Kettering, OH) got the win pitching 7 innings.    

Sinclair returns home on Wednesday, April 23 when they host University of Northwestern Ohio JV.  Sinclair will then be on the road Thursday, April 24 when they travel to Miami-Hamilton and then on the road again Saturday, April 26 when they finish up conference play at Lakeland.  Sinclair finishes up the season with two home games on May 1 when they host OSU-Newark at 3:30PM and then May 5 when they host Ancilla College at 1:30PM.  Sinclair plays all of their home games in Xenia, OH at the Athletes in Action complex.
