Sinclair Men’s Basketball announces post-season awards

Dayton, Ohio – The Sinclair Men’s Basketball team finished the 2017-18 regular season 17-15 and 5th place in the OCCAC.  The season ended in the NJCAA District 11 semi-finals when Sinclair the #3 seed in the tournament lost to the #2 seed Owens.

Leading the way for the Pride, LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (6-7/SO – Snider HS, Fort Wayne, IN) who averaged a double-double scoring 17.0 points per game and 10.1 rebounds.  He recorded 18 double-doubles this season with a career high of 31 points and 22 rebounds in a single game. 

This season the OCCAC coaches voted LiDonta OCCAC Runner Up for Player of the Year as well as NJCAA District 11 Player of the Year Runner Up.  He was also selected to the conference All-Defensive Team and 1st Team All-NJCAA Region XII.  With 26 career double-doubles and 4 OCCAC Player of the Week Awards, LiDonta was honored on Feb. 20 with the prestigious NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week honor.

Quantes Jackson (6-2/FR – Union HS, Grand Rapids, MI) earned OCCAC Honorable Mention honors as well as a spot on the conference All-Freshman team during his first season in Building 8 Arena.  Jackson finished the season with a 16.3 points per game average while shooting 39.6% from behind the 3 point arc.  He also recorded two double-doubles and was named OCCAC Player of the Week in November.

Local product Isaiah Trice (6-2/FR – Wayne H.S.) joined Jackson on the OCCAC Honorable Mention Team after a solid freshman season.  He averaged 13.1 points per game and pulled down 4.8 rebounds.  Trice also recorded two double-doubles and was named OCCAC Player of the Week in January.

Rounding out the season, Sinclair set a new school record for making 19 three pointers in a single game.  Alec Holtrey (6-0/FR – Springboro H.S.) tied a school record with 31 starts in a single season.  Trice and Jackson are only the 4th set of teammates to have made 50 three pointers each in a single season.
