Sinclair Men’s Basketball blows out St. Clair County at home 109-65 for Veterans Day
Dayton, OH- The Sinclair Men’s Basketball (3-0) came out of the woodwork for a huge win against the Skippers of St. Clair County Community College (0-2). This was the 2nd meeting between the two institutions now with Sinclair winning both contest. Tonight’s win also marks a current 6 game winning streak against NJCAA Region XII Michigan schools.
Before the game started, the WPAFB Honor Guard with a presentation of the colors and the singing of our national anthem by Staff Sergeant Kelly Perry of the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight. A couple special guests joined us on the court. These special guests were Technical Sergeant Herbert H. Burton of the U.S. Army (retired) and Colonel Rick T. Johns of the United States Air Force Commander 88th Communications Group at WPAFB.
Serving as honorary assistant coaches were Technical Sergeant Joel M. Glynn (Cyber Surety Craftsman assigned to the 88th Communications Group) and Lieutenant Michael J. Price (United State Navy-Nuclear Engineer Submarines, Navigation Officer U.S.S. Tennessee). During the halftime ceremony, individuals took an oath to defend the Constitution and swore into the United States Air Force. Thank you so much to everyone who has served or is currently serving this great country of ours.
The Tartans started out rough in the first half of the game. The Skippers started the game with a 13-3 run that made it look as if they had control of the game. Sinclair’s offense was a bit shaky and lacked energy, but once they got going, they never looked back. Sinclair had a FG% of 52.9 with five 3-point FGs in the first half. The Tartan Pride then went on a 10-1 lead against the Skippers and never relinquished the lead. With a halftime score of 46-42, the game seemed closer than it actually was.
Sinclair appeared to be a completely different team in the second half. Baskets were made, plays were made, and the players played as a team. It looked as if a brand new team showed up. There must have been a great halftime speech given to them by the way they were playing. The Tartans had seven 3-point FGs in the second half and were 12/15 at the FT line. Sinclair outscored St. Clair 67-23 in the second half to go on and win with a final score of 109-65. This is the second time this season that the Tartans have scored over 100 points in a game.
Tyrone Gibson, Jr (6-03/FR-Beachwood H.S.) scored a career high 30 points and was 7/9 in 3-point FGs. Akiean Frederick (6-09/SO-Franklin Heights H.S.) had his second double-double of the year and his 8 of his career with 18 points with 11 rebounds. With 2 block shots tonight, he now stand alone in 10th place with 46 career blocks.
Sinclair Men play at home next November 30 at 7:30 PM against Cedarville-JV.
All home games are played in Building 8 Arena on the downtown Dayton campus.
