Sinclair Men’s Basketball Falls at Home to #5 Cuyahoga 49-68

Dayton, OH-The Sinclair Men’s Basketball (21-8, 8-7) snapped their 3-game winning streak with a tough home loss to the Challengers of (5) Cuyahoga Community College (26-2, 13-2).  Sophomores being recognized at tonight’s game included Dwayne Chastain, Jr. (Thurgood Marshall H.S.), Jackson Pietrzak (Dixie H.S.), Quinnten McComas (Marion Harding H.S.), and Akiean Frederick (Franklin Heights H.S.).

Coming into this game, it was known that would be a tough one for Sinclair.  The 1st half started a little rocky for the Tartans with the offense being a little sloppy.  The game was physical from the beginning, but nothing new with it being against a conference foe.  The defense for Sinclair was allowing shots and their offense was unable to make some of theirs.  Halfway in, the Tartans were already looking defeated and tired.  Turnovers were a key mistake for Sinclair as they led to points for Cuyahoga.  Jackson Pietrzak scored 2 straight 3-point FGs for the Tartans.  Defense was forcing turnovers and Sinclair was trying to cut the lead to single digits.  They got within 10 points with a score of 25-35, but their offense had unforced turnovers.  By the end of the 1st half, Sinclair was down 25-39.

In the 2nd half, Sinclair came out with more energy, but was still unable to keep up with Cuyahoga.  Shots were being missed on the Tartan side and the Challengers were starting to run away with it.  Sinclair did have good ball movement on offense, but there were sloppy shots in the paint.  The Tartan Pride never gave up and played their heart out.  They were down by a manageable 14 points with 4 minutes left in the game.  Sinclair looked to be suffocated on offense and was unable to get their shots to go in.  The Cuyahoga Challengers ended up being too much for the Sinclair Tartan Pride and the visiting team won with a score of 49-68.

Akiean Frederick had another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Jackson Pietrzak finished with 6 points and 2 rebounds.

Quinnten McComas left the game early due to an injury and was only in the game for 2 minutes.

Sinclair will finish the season at Edison on Saturday March 4th.

All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
