#13 Sinclair Men’s Basketball wins 108-81
Dayton, OH- The (13)Sinclair Men’s Basketball (7-0) finished off a grueling 5 straight road games with an impressive 108-81 victory over Ohio University-Chillicothe Hilltoppers.
This was the 41st meeting between the two programs with Sinclair now leading the series 32-9. The last meeting took place back on December 27, 2012 with a Sinclair recording a road win 97-57.
After the initial opening minutes, Sinclair was able to establish an offensive superiority both around the basket and from the perimeter. The Pride scored 50 points in the first 20 minutes behind 57% shooting from the field and 41% (7-17) from the 3pt line. A normally good shooting OU-Chillicothe team found it difficult to get many clean looks at the basket and could only manage 38 points to trail by 12 at half.
To say the second half was all Sinclair would be an understatement. The Pride really turned up the offensive heat by seemingly scoring on every possession. Sinclair poured in 58 second half points by going 3-8 (37.5%) from behind the arc and 67.6% (25-37) total from the field. Once you subtract the 3pt misses, the Pride shot 22-29 (75.9%) inside the 3pt arc in the second half.
The Pride finish the game scoring 108 points to only 81 for the Hilltoppers. Sinclair has now scored over 100 four times in seven games this season and is currently 6th in the nation averaging 98.9 points per game.
Sinclair also tied two school records with the 108-81 victory, 12 straight non-conference road win and 7 wins in the month of November. The Pride can earn win #8 in November and set a new mark Wednesday against visiting the Cedarville University JV team.
Coming off his 2nd OCCAC Player of the Week honors last week, Akiean Frederick (6-9/SO – Franklin Heights H.S.) recorded his 6th double-double of the season and the 12th of his career with an easy 29 points 13 rebounds.
Local product Dwayne Chastain (6-3/SO – Thurgood Marshall H.S.) recorded a career high 21 points and 11 assist earning him his 2nd double-double of the year.
Two other players also earned career highs in points, Quinnten McComas (6-2/SO – Marion Harding H.S.) with 16 points and LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (6-7/FR – Fort Wayne Snider H.S.) chipped in with 15 points 7 rebounds.
After just 7 games, the Pride continues to stay around the top of the NJCAA stat categories; 1st (8.6 block shots per game), 2nd (26.3 assist per game), 3rd (55.4 field goal %), 6th (98.9 points per game), 9th (12.7 steals per game).
The Pride will finally return to Building 8 Arena after 5 straight road games to take on Cedarville Univ. JV Wednesday night at 7:30pm.
All home games are played in Building 8 Arena on the downtown Dayton campus.
