(11)Sinclair Men’s Basketball wins big 104-59 at home

Dayton, OH-The (11)Sinclair Men’s Basketball (14-3/4-2) played a rare Monday conference game, having to reschedule with Lakeland (6-5/2-1) due to bad weather back in December.  Sinclair made easy and quick work as they handed Lakeland their first conference loss 104-59.

Lakeland limped into Building 8 Arena Monday down several players but coming off a 75-55 win at Clark State Saturday.  Unfortunately for the Lakers, this trip to the Miami Valley would not end the same way.

Right from the start, it was obvious that Sinclair had too much size and depth on the bench for the Lakers.  Sinclair scored early in the paint with crisp ball movement and offensive rebounding.  Hanging tough, the Lakers came out hot from the field connecting on key baskets to stay within striking distance for the first 10 minutes.

Trevon Granger for Lakeland scored 11 early points and teammate Jeramie Burge chipped in 9 in the first half to make an early run on the home team.  The duo of Granger and Burge had to expend so much energy just to score the ball against a more physical defense of Sinclair that they had little left in the tank to give on the defensive end.  And Sinclair pounded the ball down low as LiDonta Hick-Gentry had his way with 18 points in the first 20 minutes.

Sinclair was able to finally pull way near the end of the first half as the Lakers looked tired.  The Pride entered halftime up 50-30 and in control.

The Second half was all Akiean Frederick as he scored 33 of his career high 41 points.  Lakeland had no answer for the 6-9 forward and as the Lakeland shots started to miss the mark, Sinclair was out in transition making the visitors pay.

The Pride finished the day hitting the century mark for 5th time this season, after doing it 11 times last season.

Akiean Frederick (6-09/SO-Franklin Heights H.S.) had a career high 41 points along with 14 rebounds and LiDonta Hick-Gentry (6-7/FR-Fort Wayne (IN) Snider H.S.) also posted a career high with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Jaquan Harrison (6-4/FR-Columbus Africentric H.S.) joined in with 17 points and Dwayne Chastain, Jr. (6-03/SO-Thurgood Marshall H.S.) finished with 14 points and 10 assist.

Sinclair Men will continue this stretch of 4 conference games in 8 days as they travel to Clark State Wednesday, tip time 7:30pm.

All home games are played in the only arena in the nation named Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
