#19 Sinclair Men’s Basketball come out on top against Edison 81-76
Dayton, OH-The Sinclair Men’s Basketball (17-4, 5-3) pull out a tough win over the Chargers of Edison State Community College (11-8, 1-7) this afternoon 81-76.
From the get-go, this was looking to be a very physical game between the two teams. Sinclair started off a little slow and sloppy in the 1st half. The energy of Sinclair was down from the beginning as they looked very uninspired both offensively and defensively.
They started making their layups and the momentum starting swinging in their favor. Sinclair was able to make a few stops that allowed the home team to put on a 11-2 run and pull ahead 22-13.
Even though Edison was having trouble scoring the ball and not shooting very well in the first half (33.3%), they stayed in the game with pure hustle and beating Sinclair to every loose ball. At the half, Sinclair held onto the lead with a score of 37-34.
In the 2nd half, Sinclair once again pushed the lead out to 14 points only to see the Chargers storm back on energy and desire. Down the stretch the game remained physical between the conference foes and Edison was making a slow comeback with points from the free throw line.
In the end, Sinclair was able to get a couple of defensive stops and knock down key free throws to hold on. It was not a pretty win but one the Pride will put in the books and move onto the next four games, all on the road.
All but one starter, scored in the double digits for Sinclair.
Akiean Frederick (6-08/SO-Franklin Heights H.S.) led the team with 19 points and 8 rebounds and Leander Williams (5-06/FR-Snider H.S.) came off the bench with 16 points.
Jaquan Harrison (6-4/FR-Columbus Africentric H.S.) contributed 13 points and Quinnten McComas (6-2/SO-Marion Harding H.S.) joined in with 12 points.
Dwayne Chastain Jr (6-3/SO-Thurgood Marshall H.S.) finished with 11 points 7 rebounds and 4 assist.
Tonight’s game was also the coaching staff’s annual “Coaches vs Cancer” Suites and Sneakers Weekend Game. Coach Price is a member of the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) and this weekend college coaches across the nation would be wearing sneakers with their suites for cancer research.
Sinclair will be on the road for the next four games starting with Columbus State on Wednesday. This will be a 5:30 game as the Women will play the 7:30 contest.
Sinclair Men play at home next on Wednesday February 15 against Clark State at 7:30 P.M.
All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
