#13 Sinclair Men’s Basketball Lights Up Cedarville-JV With 91-38 Win
Dayton, OH- The (13)Sinclair Men’s Basketball (8-0) won their 8th straight game of the year by knocking off the Cedarville University JV Yellow Jackets 91-38 at home Wednesday night, which sets a new school record for number of victories in the month of November (8).
After coming off a 5-game road trip, the Pride did not look to be slowing down and would not let anyone get in their way. The 38 points allowed tied a school record for the least amount of points allowed in a game. Sinclair is currently ranked #1 in the national with 8.6 blocks per game, but the Pride were able to get 9 blocks tonight. With this win, the current sophomores have never lost a game in November.
The offense looked to be on the fritz tonight with missed dunks and lazy shooting. Sinclair seemed to more worried about the scoreboard and not playing the game. Even though the Tartans were dominating, their play did look to slow down.
The Pride started the game on a 17-0 run, but allowed the Yellow Jackets to cut into the lead just a little. Despite these mistakes, Sinclair never gave up the lead and controlled the entire game. At halftime, Sinclair held the lead with a score of 49-22. Akiean Frederick (6-08/SO-Franklin Heights H.S.) already had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrone Gibson, Jr. (6-03/FR-Beachwood H.S.) added 14 points off the bench.
With help from the bench, Sinclair changed this game from a blowout to a complete annihilation. Even with the below average shooting percentage from the field, the defense held the Yellow Jackets at bay and should be given all the credit.
The bench was one of the highlights from this game tonight as Sinclair’s bench outscored Cedarville’s 45-6. Also, Sinclair forced 25 turnovers while only having 10. With a final score of 91-38, the Tartan Pride continue their unbeaten streak.
Akiean Frederick (6-09/SO-Franklin Heights H.S.) recorded his 7th double-double of the year and the 13th of his career with 25 points and a career high 18 rebounds.
LiDonta Hicks-Gentry (6-07/FR-Snider H.S.) had 13 points and Tyrone Gibson, Jr. ended the night with 16 points.
The Pride will travel to Detroit on Saturday for another Region XII match up against Wayne County. Sinclair will return home to open conference play next Saturday December 10th at 3:00 PM against Lakeland Community College.
All home games are played in Building 8 on the downtown Dayton campus.
