Dayton, Ohio---The Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) has named Akiean Frederick and Kaylah Ivey (Owens) the player of the week recipients in men's and women's basketball, respectively.
Frederick, who won the season's first OCCAC player of the week award on Nov. 6, continued his torrid start to the season. Not only has he led Sinclair Community College's men's basketball team to a 6-0 start, but he has been the main reason why.
Last week, Frederick averaged 29.5 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. In his team's 89-87 win over Harrisburg Area Community College, the redshirt sophomore forward had 35 points on 16-for-21 shooting, along with 12 rebounds, four steals, one assist and one block. Then, in a 100-77 win over Montgomery County Community College, he had 24 points on 7-for-14 shooting, along with 10 rebounds, three assists, one steal and two blocks.
Overall this year, Frederick has five double-doubles over a six-game span, and he finished just one rebound shy of a double-double in the one game he didn't. During that span, he is averaging 26.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.8 blocks per game.
Frederick and the Sinclair men's basketball team will be back in action on Monday against Ohio University - Chillicothe.
