Washington Named OCCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week

Dayton, Ohio – The Sinclair Men’s basketball Marcellous Washington (6-1/SO – Lexington KY Bryan Station H.S.) has been named the OCCAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 4-10.  This marks the fourth time this season a Sinclair player has earned Player of the Week for the OCCAC.

Washington, a 6-1 sophomore guard from Lexington (KY), has helped Sinclair Community College to a school record 16-0 start and a Top 3 ranking in the NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball polls.

He averaged 20.5 points, seven rebounds, nine assists, four steals and one block in two wins last week.

In an 80-60 win over Cincinnati State on Wednesday, Washington had 16 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists, three steals and one block. He followed that up with 25 points, five rebounds, seven assists, five steals and one block in a 100-88 win over Lorain County Community College on Saturday.

Washington has helped Sinclair to a 16-0 start overall and a 5-0 mark in OCCAC play. He is averaging 12.6 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game overall. In OCCAC play, he is averaging 16 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game.

Sinclair is currently averaging 98.3 points per game which is 4th best in the nation and Marcellous is one of 6 players on the Sinclair roster averaging double figures.  He is also 4th in the nation with a 4.2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio and 14th in the nation in steals with 2.8 a game.

Sinclair will host Clark State Wednesday night at 7:30 and conference foe Cuyahoga Saturday at 3:00pm.
