Sinclair Men’s Basketball runs record to 7-0 with a 100-65 home victory

November 30, 2015

Dayton, Ohio – At the front end of another three game week, the Sinclair Men’s basketball (7-0) found a way to knock off a very gritty performance by the Cedarville University JV (3-4) team.  This was the start of three games heading into Finals Week and the Pride finally pulled away to beat the visiting Yellow Jackets 100-65.

The first game coming back after a holiday break is always a little sloppy and especially when you play a very disciplined and structured team like Cedarville.  The first half was exactly what was expected as the visitors kept the game close by knocking down six 3’s and hitting the offensive glass.  The Pride was lucky to take an 8 point lead into the locker at half.

The second half Sinclair found their way back to what had been working so far this season, solid defense and transition offense.  Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, the 8 point margin quickly grew to 20+ as Sinclair started to put up points in a hurry.  Averaging over 104 points per game so far this season, Sinclair has the ability to score in bunches and that finally happened tonight in the second half.  The Yellow Jackets had not answer for Sinclair either in transition or half court as the Pride scored 58 second half points to put the game away.

The second half explosion was spearheaded by Sophomore Guard Manny Powell (5-8/SO – Gahanna Lincoln H.S.) as he lit the Yellow Jackets up for 16 of his game high 22 points.  Also pushing the tempo in the second half was DeAngalo Gates (6-2/SO – Dayton Thurgood Marshall H.S.) as he finished with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds.

This was the fourth time in seven games that the Pride scored 100 points or more.  And with the 7-0 start to the season, this is the best start in more than 25 years.

Wednesday the Pride will return to action as Hocking College makes their first trip to the Downtown Dayton Campus and the only arena in the nation named: Building 8.  This will be a single game and tip time is set for 7:30pm.
