(5) Sinclair Men’s Basketball wins 1st round game 115-62
March 1, 2016
Dayton, Ohio – (5)Sinclair (28-2) Men’s basketball team opened the 2016 NJCAA Division II Men’s Basketball tournament tonight with a commanding win over Clark State (6-23) 115-62.
Playing in their final game in Building 8 Arena, the 7 sophomores made it memorable. The 115 points scored in a post-season game is the most in school history. This was also the 11th this season the Pride rolled up 100+ points, tied for 3rd in the Sinclair record books.
To start the game, Clark State came out hot as they uncharacteristically knocked down their first four 3 pointers to stay even with the Pride. Even though the Eagles were living in the 3 point arc, Sinclair stayed true to the game plan and continued to pound the ball inside.
After Clark State made their fourth 3 pointer, the well went bone dry and the flood gates opened for Sinclair. The Eagles could not buy another three after starting 4-4, they missed their next 11 three point attempts and the Pride outscored them 92-39 from that point.
Overmatched in the front court, Clark State could not defend the bigs of the Pride. Then once they started missing shots, it allowed Sinclair to get out in transition and score easy buckets at the rim.
Not only did Sinclair dominate on the scoreboard but the held Clark State to 15 total rebounds, also the fewest in Sinclair history. Adding another mark to the Sinclair record books, the 53 point margin in a tournament game is the largest margin of victory.
Manny Powell (5-8/SO – Gahanna Lincoln H.S.) led all scorers with 23 points and 8 assist. Joining Manny in the 20 point club tonight was Reshardd Harris (6-4/SO – Michigan Collegiate H.S) with 20 points and 7 rebounds.
Marcellous Washington (6-1/SO – Lexington Bryan Station H.S.) poured in 18 points and off the bench Steven Perriere (6-7/SO – Paris, France) chipped in 15.
Akiean Frederick (6-8/FR – Columbus Franklin Heights H.S.) continued to dominate in the paint as he collected another double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
