Second Half Offensive Burst Propels Sinclair Over Wittenberg JV

Dayton, Ohio- Sinclair's (3-2) high octane offense flexes its' muscles as the Tartan Pride roll to a 88-68 win after trailing at halftime. Jabriel Coaston (6'6" sophomore forward out of Cincinnati Ohio) lead the charge for the Tartans. Coaston had 17 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals to stack the score sheet. Sinclair improved to 3-2 on the season while Wittenberg JV falls to 0-1. 

 

First half saw the Wittenberg Tigers get out to an early lead. Westley Parr's (6'7" sophomore out of Cleveland, Ohio) ability to score in the paint brought the Tartans back and into the lead. Both teams went back and forth with nine lead changes. Sinclair was able to get to the free throw line converting nine of their 11 attempts for a free throw percentage of 81.8 percent. The difference in the half was Wittenberg's ability to shoot from beyond the arc. The tigers went six for 16 from distance compared to Sinclair's one of six. So much like the rest of the season so far, Sinclair had the rebounding advantage 23-17 while the Tigers had the six to nine turnover advantage. Wittenberg JV went into the intermission with a 32-34 lead.

 

The Tartan Pride's high powered offense awoke the second half. Their best half of shooting for the season came alive as they shot 52.5 percent from the field and an even better 73.3 percent from beyond the arc. Switching to a high press defense caused the Tigers into 16 turnovers from 12 Tartan steals. Sinclair won the battle on the boards out rebounded their opponents 45 to 32 for the contest which led to 16 second chance points. Wittenberg shot an even better percentage from the field in the second half than they did in the first but Sinclair held them to only 23 shot attempts in the second half compared to 34 in first.

 

Notable performances included Michael Tillman (6'4" freshman forward out of Richmond, Indiana) who had 21 points which led all scorers. Manny Powell Jr. (5'8" freshman guard out of Columbus, Ohio) contributed 14 points with five rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Steven Perriere (6'7" freshman forward out of Villepinte, France) led the game in rebounding with nine rebounds, seven of which came on the offensive end.

 

Sinclair next contest is hosting Jackson College this Saturday, November 22nd at 3pm in Building 8, P.A.C Gymnasium.
