DAYTON, Ohio – The Sinclair Tartans held off the Edison Chargers 77-69. With the victory Sinclair improves to 12-9 on the season and 2-5 in the OCCAC. Edison with the loss falls to 7-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference. The player of the game was Westley Parr (SO/6’7” Forward from Cleveland, OH). He had a team high 21 points along with 8 rebounds and two assists. Wes has now scored in double figures in 20 of the 21 games played and has racked up 20+ points 10 times.
The game began with Edison getting out to an early 18-8 lead. It was not a good shooting half for the Tartans as they missed all five of their free throws and only made one three point bucket out of six attempts in the first half. The Chargers were able to get going by getting to the line and converting. Edison made seven of their eight throws from the line. They also out rebounded the Tartans 29-17 on the boards and converted them for 11 second chance points. The Tartans hung on to keep it only an eight point deficit at the break.
Halftime was just what Sinclair needed as they came out of the break on a 9-2 run. Connor Myslowski (SO/6’4” Guard from West Carrollton, OH) was unconscious from behind the arc going 3-3 and 5-7 from the floor. The Tartans were running efficiently by shooting 50 percent for the half which built up to their largest lead of the game up 68-53. Edison came roaring back in the waning seconds of the game as they scored nine points in 15 seconds to bring the game within three. Sinclair hung on by making their free throws and getting defensive stops in the last seconds to hold on for the win.
Notable performances included Manny Powell (FR/5’8” Guard from Columbus, OH) with 19 points and Steven Perriere (FR/6’7” Forward from France) who had tied for a game high 12 rebounds. For the Chargers, Malik Thurman had a game high 36 points and tied for a game high 12 rebounds.
Sinclair is back in action this Saturday as they host Lorain County C.C. at 4pm ET in P.A.C Gym in Building 8.
