DAYTON, Ohio – Sinclair Community College men’s basketball team defeats Columbus State Community College in an 86-83 thrilling contest.Marcellous Washington (FR/6’1” Bryan Station H.S.) made the deep three as time expired to end the Cougars comeback and win the game. With the win, the Tartans improve to 11-8 and earned their first conference win of the season. The Cougars fall to 7-10 and 2-2 in the OCCAC. The win ended a four game winless streak. The player of the game was Westley Parr (SO/6’7” Benedictine H.S.) who had 20 points on the night with seven rebounds to go along with it.
The game began with the Tartans shooting 48.8 percent from the field to Columbus State’s 37.8 percent. Steven Perriere (FR/6’7” Jean Rostand H.S.)dominated the boards pulling in 10 first half rebounds. The first half went back and forth until the Tartans went on a 7-2 run to end the half and go into the locker room with a 46-36 lead.
The second half started with the Tartans shooting red hot from the start. They soon turned their 10 point lead at half to an 18 point lead midway through the second half. The Cougars turned it around shooting 54.5 percent from the field and got consecutive stops to tie the game up at 81-81 with two minutes remaining. The last possession found the game tied with seven seconds left in regulation. Marcellous Washington received the ball fromConnor Myslowski (SO/6’4” West Carrollton H.S.) and put up a deep three as time expired to win the game 86-83.
Notable Performances included Manny Powell (FR/5’8” Gahanna Lincoln H.S.) who had 16 points and 12 assists on the night for his first double-double on the season. For the Cougars, Matthew Rhodes had 17 points and four rebounds.
The Tartans are back in action Saturday, January 24th as they visit Cuyahoga C.C. at 3pm
