DAYTON, Ohio- Sinclair Community College men’s basketball team falls to 13th ranked Cincinnati State Technology and Community College 75-74. With the loss, Sinclair falls to 13-10 overall and 5-4 in the OCCAC. With the win, Cincinnati State improves to 14-9 and 5-3 in conference play.
Sinclair came into the game ranked ninth in Division II NJCAA basketball in shot blocking and it showed with six first half blocks, four of which came from the 10thbest shot blocker in the country Jalen Robertson (6’8”/FR out of Franklin Co. H.S.),he ended the game with a career high six blocks. The Tartans had stingy defense holding the Surge to 30 percent from the field while shooting only 1-11 from beyond the arc. Sinclair took the lead with about four minutes left in the half where they shot 4-4 over a two minute span to take the 22-20 lead. There were nine lead changes in the half with the ninth coming in the late seconds of the half and Sinclair went into the locker room up 32-30.
The second half saw much of the same as the first. Sinclair hit threes early in the second to get extend their lead. Cincinnati State was struggling shooting from the floor but was able to get 23 offensive rebounds and out rebounded the Tartans 49-37. Sinclair went dry from the field towards the end of the game until Connor Myslowski (6’4/SO our of West Carrollton H.S.) hit a three with 53 seconds left in the game to bring the game within one. Missed free-throws for the remainder of the game by the Surge kept the Tartans alive as Cincinnati State only make 14 of 13 throws for the game. With 6 seconds left, Manny Powell (5’8”/FR out of Gahanna Lincoln H.S.) made a free throw to bring it within one, on the inbounds play, Connor Myslowski stole the pass, dished it to Marcellous Washington (6’1”/FR out of Lexington KY Bryan Station H.S.) who just could not convert on the shot attempt as time expired.
Notable performances included Westley Parr (6’6”/SO out of Cleveland Benedictine H.S.) had 24 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks. Manny Powell had a game high seven assists to go along with 17 points. For the Surge, Anderson ended the game with a game high 26 points and seven rebounds.
Sinclair is back at it again against another ranked opponent, but this time they visit #19 Owens C.C. this Saturday, Feb 7th at 3pm.
