SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – With the 2018 OCCAC Baseball championship race winding down, representatives from the top-2 conference contenders were selected as the OCCAC Athletes of the Week. Sinclair’s Malave Bettinger is this week’s Position Player of the Week while Max Carevic of Cuyahoga earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

Malave Bettinger (Sophomore/1B – Coldwater H.S.) made the most of the Tartan Pride’s lone contest of the week, exploding for two homeruns and six RBI. His 2-for-3 outing also included a pair of walks and three runs scored as Sinclair blew past Eastern Gateway, 21-2, for a road victory.

This marks Bettinger’s first career weekly honor and the fourth different Sinclair baseball student-athlete to nab the honor in ’18.

After winning the OCCAC regular season championship, Sinclair will advance directly to the NJCAA District tournament in Sandusky, OH starting May 16th.  The Winner of the District tournament will move onto the NJCAA Division II College World Series in Enid, OK.
