Sinclair picked up two wins Sunday against regional foe St. Clair.
The Sinclair offense took a while to get going and trailed 1-0 heading into the 4th inning. Trevor Hafner and Blaze Glenn got things started with a pair of one out singles, and Eddie Pursinger drew a walk to load the bases. The day belonged to Sean Darmafall who hit his first triple of the game, clearing the bases. Darmafall than scored off an Aron Mowery sacrifice fly to left. The Tartans weren’t done yet as Azim Qadri homered to make it 5-1. Pride starter Jake Dennis went five strong innings and allowed only one run. He left with the lead but the bullpen wasn’t able to shut it down as the Skippers tied the game up in the 6th with a homerun of their own. Eddie Pursinger led off the bottom of the 6th with a base hit to right and Austin Elmore entered the game as a pinch runner. Elmore was on the move on the second pitch when Sean Darmafall laced another triple to centerfield, scoring Elmore, and giving the Pride the lead. Azim Qadri added a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 7-5. Matt Pfeffer who allowed the runs in the 6th pitched a scoreless 7th to secure his second win of the season.
Things didn’t start off well for sophomore pitcher John Shutrump after walking the first two batters but he quickly found his way. Shutrump only allowed one hit and threw five scoreless innings without walking another batter. The bats got going early with RBI singles off the bats of Sean Darmafall and Blaze Glenn. Up 3-0 in the 3rd, the Pride took advantage of a couple defensive miscues and scored eight unearned runs. The Tartans added a few more runs and the final score was 14-1. Sean Darmafall collected four hits and added three more RBI’s while Blaze Glenn and Trevor Hafner each added three RBI’s of their own. Glenn tripled in two of his RBI’s and Hafner hit his first homerun of the season.
The Pride will be back in action Tuesday at home against Tiffin University. First pitch will be at 3pm and freshmen Mitchell Morris will make his first career start.
