(8) Baseball splits with Vincennes University
Dayton, OH – (8) The Sinclair baseball (28-3 / 4-0) faced off against Vincennes University (18-14) Tuesday in a midweek Region XII game. After coming off a four game sweep of Lakeland to open conference play this past weekend, the Pride split with the Trailblazers at Grady’s Field.
Sinclair was able to hold off Vincennes 3-1 in the first game but dropped a heartbreaker 5-3 ten inning affair in the nightcap.
Sinclair got the scoring started in the bottom of the second with two outs as Connor Cleary (SO/1B – Lexington KY Catholic H.S.) singled to left field to score Ben Myers (SO/OF – Grove City H.S.) from second.
The Pride was back at it the following inning with a run scoring triple by Nick Massey (FR/OF – Beavercreek H.S.) followed by a single up the middle by Alec Turner (SO/3B – Carlisle H.S.) scoring Massey to give Sinclair a 3-0 margin after 3 innings.
Nick Cecil (RS-FR/LHP – Lebanon H.S.) gave up one earned run in 5.2 innings to earn the win and Travis Rowland (SO-RHP – Fairfield H.S.) notched another save for the 3-1 win.
Game two would turn out to be an extra inning affair after both teams plated 2 runs to in the first inning. Vincennes pushed across another run in the top of the second to go up 2-1. That is where the game stayed until the bottom of the ninth.
Chad Roberts (SO/IF – Wilmington H.S.) blasted a double off the left field fence to lead off the ninth. After a sac fly to move Roberts to third, Billy Kidd (SO/IF – Marysville H.S.) laid down a perfect bunt that scored Roberts and sent the game into extra innings at 3-3.
Unfortunately the Pride bullpen was not able to hold the Trailblazer in the top of the 10th as the visitors put up 2 runs. Sinclair was able to get two base runner in the bottom of the 10 but was unable to push anything across the plate as Sinclair dropped the second game 5-3.
The Pride will host Edison State this weekend in a conference doubleheader starting at 3pm.
Sinclair plays all their home games at Grady’s Field at Athletes in Action in Xenia, OH.
